EGG EATING AND THE TIMING OF IT ALL!
🥚 EAT THE WHOLE EGG — AND TIMING MAY MATTER
For years, fitness culture told us:
Eat the whites. Throw away the yolks.
But if you're training to maintain or build muscle, you may want to rethink that.
A recent Verywell Health article examining the research on eggs, protein, and muscle growth points to two useful times to put eggs on the menu:
MORNING — for protein and appetite control.
Starting the day with a protein-rich food like eggs can help increase satiety and make it easier to get enough protein across the entire day.
AFTER TRAINING — for muscle recovery and growth.
After resistance training, your body needs amino acids to repair and build muscle tissue. Eggs provide a complete, high-quality protein source containing all nine essential amino acids.
But here's the interesting part:
WHOLE EGGS MAY BEAT EGG WHITES
Research cited in the article found that whole eggs produced a greater stimulation of post-workout muscle protein synthesis than an equivalent amount of protein from egg whites alone.
Why?
The yolk isn't just dead weight.
It provides fats, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that may contribute to the body's anabolic response to a meal.
One large egg provides roughly:
🥚 6+ grams of protein
🥚 About 70 calories
🥚 Complete protein
🥚 Essential nutrients from the yolk
So if you're training—especially as you get older—don't obsess over finding some magical supplement while overlooking one of the simplest protein foods sitting in your refrigerator.
Train. Recover. Eat enough protein.
And unless you have a dietary reason to avoid it...
DON'T BE SO QUICK TO THROW AWAY THE YOLK.
— ISO QUICK STRENGTH
Strength isn't built only during the workout. It's built during recovery.
